GISO and Prison Donation Programs in South-West Regions
The Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Women Affairs has commenced the implementation of two flagship initiatives, the Girls in School Outreach (GISO) Programme and the Prison Donation Programme, across the South-West regions, including Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos, and Ogun States.
The GISO Programme focuses on expanding access to quality education for schoolgirls by providing learning materials, scholarships, and sustained support aimed at reducing dropout rates. The outreach also includes targeted sensitisation on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), equipping girls with knowledge, confidence, and protective awareness.
The Prison Donation Programme, under the OrangeHope Outreach, delivers essential hygiene and sanitary supplies to women in correctional facilities, ensuring that every woman, regardless of circumstance, is treated with dignity. As part of the visits, the Office also listens to the concerns of female inmates, documenting cases of prolonged detainment, inability to meet bail conditions, and disproportionate sentencing. Where possible, the Office intervenes to facilitate support, including bail assistance or the review of minor or unfair cases.
